A 40-year-old driver of waste
management company, Zoomlion, Kofi Appiah, and his 25-year-old friend,
Kweku Enu, who took the law into their hands and beat one Kweku Jack to
death at Nkanfoa, a suburb of Cape Coast, have found themselves in the
grip of the law.
The two on Tuesday appeared before a Cape Coast Magistrate Court presided over by Rita Amonyiwa Edusah for murdering Kweku Jack.
They were charged with the offence of murder and will re-appear on April 19, 2016.
Prosecuting,
Chief Inspector Christiana Sampong said the complainant in the case,
Tony Sam, is a health worker and a resident of Acquarium in Cape Coast.
Chief Inspector Sampong stated that on April 1, 2016, Appiah and Jack went to a drinking bar at Nkanfoa to take some drinks.
He
added that at about 9:30 pm when the two had finished taking the
drinks, a serious fight ensued between them and the accused sustained
injuries and rushed to the hospital, leaving Jack under a palm tree
close to his house.
The prosecutor told the court that Enu, who
is a friend to Appiah, upon hearing about the injuries sustained by his
friend, rushed to the scene in anger to beat Jack.
According to
Chief Inspector Sampong, Enu later returned to the house of Appiah with
bloody hands and took water to wash up himself.
On April 2, 2016
at about 5:30 am, Jack was found lying dead under the said palm tree and
a report was made to the Central Regional Police Command, leading to
the arrest of the two.
The body has since been deposited at the Regional Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy. |
