Blakk Rasta congratulates Stonebwoy but disagrees with his VGMA award

Blakk Rasta has bluntly admitted that Stonebwoy didn’t deserve the award for “Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year” because he says, “the #GoHigher song nominated for him in that category is neither a Reggae or a Dancehall song”, he said.
“In fact, if the VGMA had given me that award for #SerwaaAkoto as the Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year I would have rejected it. I would have openly said there that Stonebwoy’s song was popular than mine. And indeed #GoHigher was more popular than #SerwaaAkoto. But I still stand by it that his nominated song was neither a Reggae song nor a Dancehall song. Stonebwoy is my younger brother. I don’t want people to say I hate him or I’m jealous of him but the truth is there and we all know it was not meant for that category. The VGMA Board needs to do some proper scrutiny. They need to do their work well”, he added.

BeenieWords.com in a telephone interview questioned him on his thoughts about the 2016 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). He spoke extensively as captured below;
“I have refused to be surprised or shocked about the VGMAs for some time now. In times past I used to worry about certain things but now I don’t allow that to get to me. Whatever happens there now doesn’t get to me anymore. It’s a human institution. I enjoyed myself, made connects with industry people and it was fun. But let’s try to raise the standards of the Ghana Music Awards. The VGMA should award excellence instead of popularity. the moment your song is popular, whether is a good song or not, whether a good production or bad production, nobody cares. So far as it is popular, it gets awarded. If truly we want to award content or good material, then why are you stopping profane songs? Awarding mediocre songs is the same as awarding profane songs. If we are trying to upgrade the status of our awards like The Grammys then we need to review content and reward excellence, because that is what Grammy does. The Grammy doesn’t do popular awards, they reward excellence. In a country that payola is the ish, anyone can pay their way through with bad content for awards because they know they bought that with popularity. If we don’t take care it (VGMA) will become a school fun fair.”
